Nutrasweet in China Essay Example for Free

Nutrasweet in China EssayTo come up with a decision to the whether give in the greater China Market or not we decided to approach the case with a SWOT analysis. Strengths NutraSweet is an artificial sweetener that is one of the most accepted brand names in the United States and in the world. NutraSweets earnings per share is $ 6. 36 and with huge capitalization and investments in diverse returns. Stacey has the approved reckon of $ 500,000 to market NutraSweet in China.NutraSweet has the flexibility on how to position their intersection in terms of functionality, or either as sugar substitute or health product for diabetics. Weaknesses The research conducted towards the Chinese consumers may not truly reflect the real sentiments of the consumers towards NutraSweet. NutraSweet has not decided on building its own distribution dodge and may rely on foreign agents for distribution. NutraSweet is more expensive than ordinary white sugar. Opportunities China is a big market and can provide high(prenominal) profitability to the phoner.China is the second or eighth largest economy in the world depending on how it was gauged. There is a perceived consumers infatuation with Western brands. Chinese maintain healthful lifestyle so the potential for NutraSweet to launch their product in China is strong. Threats Sugar is a common household purchase as a sweetener and has been part of Chinese households for decades. Culture dictates that there might be difficulty in replacing traditional use of sugar with NutraSweet. The Chinese market is so diverse and it is difficult to come up with a general characteristic to define them.Artificial sweeteners are known by muniment of skepticism for saccharin and potential health hazards. There is difficulty in attracting and retaining local employees and as such, NutraSweet is having doubts in investing into training their marketing and sales personnel for panic that the employees would not stay long in the social club. The re are only very few foreign agents that operate in China. Sugar use and phthisis levels differed among 3 key markets Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Beijing. Arthur Andersen survey in China showed that most joint ventures from food and drink were not profitable. Most MNCs in China are visionary despite substantial growth. Majority of the Chinese are considered flat-bellied and dont see the need for a diet regimen. The Chinese culture besides dictates that they are not that concerned with their teeth, hence they dont have that fear of tooth decay. The company should enter the Greater China market as a niche product for consumers with a medical need. The company cannot delay its entry in the China market, especially with factors such as an average of 10% sparing growth, a quickly emerging middle class, and a high possibility in consumers increase purchasing power.Postponement of entry may mean higher costs in the future and although the company will not immediately profit from the venture , research showed that companies who entered the market 5 to 10 years ago were doing best. The fellowship gained from market entry will allow NutraSweet to sharpen its future strategies. Pros The successful experience in establishing medical awareness in Hong Kong may be use to the Greater China Market. Entering the Greater China market through the three key cities will provide a better knowledge of the boilersuit Chinese market.A natural market consisting of diabetics and obese customers already exist. Hospital stores and drug dispensaries do not have the bargaining strength that retailers have. Product teaching campaigns will be facilitated by health professionals who will easily understand and appreciate the products benefits. Promotion to medical professionals through associations will not need as much cost as a nationwide fate-market campaign. A $ 2,010,526. 31 in breakeven sales seems very feasible in the Chinese market.Cons The Chinese tend to be slim and had historically not been preoccupied by tooth decay. ? SHORT-TERM The Chinese consumers attraction to brand names, especially the number 1 in any category gives NutraSweet an opportunity to establish itself as a first mover in the medical aid products under a freshly category of sweeteners. The company will launch a product information campaign for medical professionals and will in addition tap their associations. Associations of diabetics and obese consumers will also be tapped. The company will focus on relationship building with the medical industry. Since poor dental health is a problem in China, the company may also create an awareness drive on the ill effects of sugar on the teeth to lay the foundation of need awareness. The product will be packaged in sachet form with global brand and American image prominent on the sachet to appeal to the consumers preference for American brands. The company will capitalize on the convenience of bringing the sachets anywhere with you.The medical industry w ill be given(p) free samples of the product. The doctors will be taught to fire daily use of the product, with sweetening of milk and coffee or hot drinks as one of the more common purposes. Consumers will be taught to use the product in cooking through the provision of free recipe booklets and cooking demonstration classes. The product will be distributed in the three key cities of Greater China, namely, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Beijing, where the medical industry is more developed compared with the other cities. The company will create its own distribution structure. The product will use the distribution impart of hospital stores and drug dispensaries. Since the focus is on niche marketing, the product will still be sourced from the U. S. plant. LONG-TERM The long-term goal will be to mass market the product in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and use the learnings from those markets to penetrate the market Greater China. Establishing distribution networks in the two countries will be easie r, given the favorable business environments. In Hong Kong andTaiwan, the product will be repositioned as a healthy family lifestyle food, targeting the affluent, health and weight conscious consumers. Aggressive advancement will be pursued, such as print and media ads, and the employment of product endorsers, and store promotions. Consumer awareness and education will be the focus of the campaigns.

Values of society Essay Example for Free

Values of society EssayThis in itself is interesting and is perhaps representative of the modern day fear of corruption from remote sources for example, Donna goes to That London for a job interview and returns a slightly deranged, c arer driven woman, so concerned with herself and her work that she fails to notice both that one vanquish friend has gone into labour and the other has gone off with Gaz, Donnas boyfriend. This does however hark back to the values of the pre-90s situation comedys like Steptoe and Son and The Good Life that family (and in this context this refers to the close knit group of friends) comes first. A lot of the humour in the traditional British sitcoms is derived from class distinction and the contrasts between these two classes this is oddly evident in The Good Life, in which Tom and Barbara Good decide to give up working for a living and instead enjoy a self-sustained spiritstyle. This is in great contrast to their neighbours and friends, the Le adbetters, who are very upper class and disparaging of Tom and Barbaras new lifestyle choice. The majority of disequilibrium (as relating to Todorovs theory) came from a hassle the Goods faced in maintaining their self-sufficiency whether it be a lapse back into middle-class for Barbara or Toms pigheadedness causing a minor problem to develop. They are continu every(prenominal)y challenged by Margot Leadbetter, who is a stereotypical snob with no sense of humour, who tolerates but doesnt understand their choice at all. While The Good Life was existence produced in the 1970s, a revival of sorts was taking place concerning self-sufficiency and the growing snobbery of the middle class. The show was hailed as a great support to the typeface as it showed it in a very positive light Tom and Barbara face a great ken of adversity in turning their due south London home into a small farm, however they always overcome these issues and equilibrium is restored. Margots complete misunderstan ding when it comes to self-sufficiency is representative of the snobbery of the middle-class towards those on a lower floor them why should you do the work by, for example, growing your feature food, when you can just drive to the shops and buy it?However Tom and Barbara get a advanced deal of joy from producing their own goods with varying degrees of success, and despite Margots disapproval, they are happy its a very positive message, that you dont need material worth to have a good life. The citation of Margot can be seen as a precursor to the extension of Hyacinth Bucket on Keeping Up Appearances, a caricature of a middle class social climber. It again employed class distinction as the main source of comedy, that is between Hyacinth and her unemployed sister Daisy, her economize Onslow and younger sister rosiness who are an exaggeration of the working class, in that they dont do any work at all and instead spend all day in front of the television. The driving point of Keep ing Up Appearances is that Hyacinth, forever striving to be higher in the community, is never happy, while Daisy, Onslow, Rose and Daddy are quite literally happy as pigs in muck. This is further explored in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, where the main omit (with the possible exception of Donna) have no ambition whatsoever and are completely happy to just continue with their working class lifestyle. British sitcoms scarper to be very character driven a prime example of this is My Family, an exploration of the life of long-suffering dentist Ben Harper and his equally long-suffering family.Propps character theory can be applied thus Ben, the protagonist and hero, his wife Susan, the supportary hero, his son pass, the idiot who provides comic relief, his daughter Janey the princess, and his son Michael, who acts as the donor, practically providing Ben with the means to achieve his goals at a price. Each family ingredient also periodically acts as the villain, the a ntagonist to Ben. The sitcom, then, is very formulaic the hero wants whateverthing (usually peace and quiet, in My Family), the antagonist has it or the ability to make it happen. This formula acts as something of a comfort blanket to the audience they are aware that whatever happens to the characters, it will be resolved and the status quo restored by the end of the episode these are the audience expectations of the sitcom genre regardless of the era it was produced in, therefore the basic structure of the sitcom has not been channeld more than a slight amount to reflect society. The idea of a nuclear family in sitcoms is not a new one, in new-made years however it has become more common to challenge this view Jam and Jerusalem is one such example. In the first episode the small town doctor Mike Vine dies and leaves his wife Sal as a single parent. Sals children are grown up but her nature and role as village nurse, on with her inception into the village chapter of the Women s Institute, means she effectively acts as a parent to much of the community. Jam and Jerusalem also challenges social ideals by including a character afflicted by a mental illness Rosie Bales, a middle aged woman with the mentality of a child, has an angry and violent alter egotism known as Margaret. This inclusion is an attempt to challenge the stigma of mental illness as a weakness and presents Rosie as a functioning member of society, even holding down a job at the local cheese factory and being a member of the WI. Jam and Jerusalem is considered a very down to earth sitcom, in that it doesnt utilise situations unusual to the surroundings it doesnt attempt to jump the shark, a phrase coined to describe the growing desperation of the producers of the sitcom Happy Days who created ever more bizarre plotlines in an attempt to eke out further profits.Set in the rural Cornish town of Clatterford, disequilibrium is caused by everyday situations such as the death of a family member o r a bad harvest affecting the income of farmers. By doing so the producers have appealed to a wider audience, not merely interested in watching a programme which is, in effect, the same format every episode, but realistic situations and a life they can relate to. This is a reflection of the growing maturity of sitcom audiences and the need to approach the genre in a more sensitive manner. The power of Sal Vine as a single mother is a response to the feministic values explored in AbFab however Eddie failed as a single mother, leaving her daughter to her own devices and even, in effect, becoming the child in the relationship herself. These views are challenged by My Family, in that My Family represents the nuclear family both parents are shown to be a part of the breeding of the children, however with various degrees of success showing the strengths and weaknesses of both the mother and father.Class distinction is also explored in Jam and Jerusalem, with Sals daughter Tash being a hippy and living on a commune with her illegitimate son at the beginning of the programme. Tashs alternative lifestyle is a focal point in the second series with her impending wedding to Spike a traditional wedding proves too expensive and complicated so the whole village, including the other members of the WI, pull in concert to create a home-grown gypsy wedding, showing that the differences between classes can be overcome by a common goal. Each sitcom studied reflects some aspect of society the class distinction and its associated friction in Fawlty Towers, family life in My Family and lifestyle choices in The Good Life and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps. Ultimately the sitcoms that we see today are echoes of the ones that have gone before. Whilst their setting and even content may have changed the underlying structure dust the same whilst the traditional family may have been replaced in such programmes as Two Pints, the essential format has remained the same. The rea son for this development and renewal is that sitcoms need to change and evolve as society does a perfect family such as The Brady Bunch holds no real appeal to a modern audience as Two Pints or My Family because dysfunctional families are commonplace in modern life, and make plotlines about family life much easier to write. Sitcoms have a close liaison with the social and economic milieu from which they emerge, however, they are ultimately about people, and people do not change.Bibliography 1) http//www. mediaculture-online. e/fileadmin/bibliothek/stafford_sitcoms/stafford_sitcoms.pdf 2) Image and Representation Key Concepts in Media Studies Nick Lacey 1998 3) Narrative and Genre Key Concepts in Media Studies Nick Lacey 2000.4) The Media Studies Reader Tim OSullivan and Yvonne Jewkes 1997 5) Exploring the Media Text, Industry, Audience Barbara Connell 2008 6) Media Studies AS and A2 Jacquie Bennett 2005 7) Media Studies Second Edition Stuart Price 1998 1 http//www. mediacultur e-online. de/fileadmin/bibliothek/stafford_sitcoms/stafford_sitcoms. pdf 2 http//www. mediaculture-online. de/fileadmin/bibliothek/stafford_sitcoms/stafford_sitcoms. pdf.

Junior Level Management allows the applicant for the next level depending on their performance. After conducting all tests we will mail the intimation letter for the interview to the candidates who were selected in the module. Finally they will assign the applications to the interviewers for interview.Senior Level ManagementIn this module senior level management interacts with the database for getting the details of selected applicants in the previous module. They will go through the applicant details and their Skill-sets reports. once more this management deals with the selected applicants in Jr level management selection process. Here senior level management conducts interview for these selected candidates. With these 2 modules details they will prepare the final exam candidates list for appointment and they will send the appointment letters to the selected applicants.3.2 Functional RequirementsFunctional requirements describe the high level functionality of thee system. But the cultivation of software is plagued by the scarcity of resources and difficult delivery rates. It is both necessary and prudent to evaluate the feasibl eness of a project at the earliest possible time. Three key considerations are involved in the feasibility analysis.Economic FeasibilityThis procedure is to determine the benefits and savings that are expected from a candidate system and compare them with costs. If benefits outweigh costs, then the decision is made to design and implement the system. Otherwise, further confession or alterations in proposed system will have to be made if it is to have a chance of being approved. This is an ongoing effort that improves in truth at each phase of the system life cycle.Technical FeasibilityTechnical feasibility centers on the existing computer system (hardware, software, etc.,) and to what extent it can support the proposed addition. If the budget is a serious constraint, then the project is judged not feasible.Operational FeasibilityPeople are inherently resistant to change, and computers have been know to facilitate change. It is understandable that the introduction of a candidate sy stem requires special effort to educate, sell, and train the staff on new ways of conducting business.FEASIBILITY STUDY IN THIS PROJECTTechnical FeasibilityHuman Resource Management System is the project that is designed mainly on Java. The main reason substructure choosing the Java environment is that, keeping in mind the needs of the users. The activities that go on in this particular phase are acceptance of applicants profiles with the help of headspring designed tissue based forms and storing the information in the database and retrieving for future use. The usage of JSP facilitates the dynamic page generation. This is the main reason behind the usage of JAVA for the development of this project. Since it is multi platform environment that supports web Browser where as other styles lack these features. In order to maintain continuously communicate between client and horde he/she needs a reliable protocol i.e., is TCP/IP protocol. This protocol frequently transfers messages be tween client and server. Communication Standards much(prenominal) as HTTP is used .An HTTP is a client/server interaction consists of a single request/reply interchange, it user-friendly environment.Economic FeasibilityThe Human Resource Management System is a system that maintains the information regarding the various applicant details. The entire system is designed to maintain information regarding the applied candidates and those candidates who are recruited. It also maintains information regarding the various tests conducted and the short listed candidates. Once candidates have been selected the left over candidates information is deleted from the database.Operational FeasibilityThe Human Resource Management System expeditiously manages the information plan of attack into the database sends the list of eligible candidates that need to appear for scrutiny very fastly. Also it enables results to be processed in a very time saving and effective manner and short lists the names of all candidates selected and present details about their performance in a well organized, easily understandable manner. Various reports regarding the selected candidates performance and pay scale are also generated to provide minute details regarding the entire system.3.3.5 Performance CharacteristicsHRMS was developed as a IAVA web application. It works efficiently less time it generates web page when it works on Pentium IV Processor with RAM 1 GB.It works up to ten concurrent users.3.3.6 Security IssuesInitially HR Manager assign authentication rights to employee of the organization by giving usreid, password. The authentication of the user is should verify by checking userid, password when Login.Only authenticated users of the organization can access the system.DESCRIPTION OF THE SOFTWARE USEDHISTORY OF JAVAJava language was developed by James Gosling and his team at sun Micro systems and released formally in 1995. Its former name is oak. Java Development Kit 1.0 was released in 1996. to popularize deep brown and is freely available on Internet.Overview of JavaJava is loosely based on C++ syntax, and is meant to be Object-Oriented Structure of coffee tree is midway between an construe and a compiled language deep brown programs are compiled by the coffee tree compiler into Byte Codes which are secure and portable across different platforms. These byte codes are essentially book of instructions encapsulated in single type, to what is know as a java virtual machine (JVM) which resides in standard browser.JVM verifies these byte codes when downloaded by the browser for integrity. JVM is available for almost all OS. JVM converts these byte Codes into machine specific instructions at runtime.FEATURES OF JAVAJava is object-oriented language and supports encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism and dynamic binding, but does not support multiple inheritances. Every thing in java is an object except some primitive data types.Java is portable architecture neutr al that is java programs once compiled can be executed on any machine that is enabled.JAVA is distributed in its approach and used for network programming.Java is robust, secured, high performing and dynamic in nature.Java supports multithreading. There for different separate of the program can be executed at the same timeJAVA AND INTERNETJava is strongly associated with cyberspace and known as internet programming language. Internet users can use java to create applet programs and run them locally using java enabled browser search as hot java. Applets can be downloaded from remote machine via internet and run it on local machine.JAVA AND WORLD WIDE WEBWorld wide-cut Web is an on the fence(p) ended information retrieval system designed to be used in the distributed environment. This system contains web pages that provide both information and controls. We can sweep to a new web page in any direction. This is made possible worth HTML java was meant to be used in distributed envir onment such as internet. So java could be easily incorporated into the web system and is capable of supporting animation graphics, games and other special effect. The web has become more dynamic and interactive with support of java. We can run a java program on remote machine over internet with the support of webJAVA ENVIRONMENTJava environment includes a large no. of tools which are part of the system known as java development kit (JDK) and hundreds of classes, methods, and interfaces grouped into packages forms part of java standard library (JSL).JAVA ARCHITECTUREJava architecture provides a portable, robust, high performing environment for development. Java provides portability by compiling the byte codes for the java virtual machine which are then interpreted on each platform by the runtime environment java also provides stringent compile and runtime checking and automatic memory management in order to ensure solid code.JAVA VIRTUAL MACHINEWhen we compile the code, java compiler creates machine code (byte code) for a hypothetical machine called java virtual machine (JVM). The JVM will execute the byte code and overcomes the issue of portability. The code is written and compile for one machine and interpreted all other machines. This machine is called java virtual machine.PARADIGM OF JAVADynamic down loading applets(small application programs)Elimination of flatware phenomenon that is providing those features of a product that user needs at a time. We can build web pages or web document s. it is basically a formatting language and not a programming language. The browser rea ding the document interprets mark up tags to help format the document for subsequent display to a reader. HTML is a language for describing structured documents. HTML is a platform independent. WWW (World Wide Web) pages are written using HTML. HTML tags control in part the representation of the WWW page when view with web browser. The browser interprets HTML tags in the web document and displays it. Different browsers show data differently. Examples of browsers used to be web pages includeNetscapeInternet ExplorerJAVA SCRIPTJava script is a general purpose, prototype based, object oriented scripting language developed jointly by sun and Netscape and is meant for the WWW. It is designed to be embedded in diverse applications and systems, with out consuming much memory. Java script borrows most of its syntax from java but also inherits from awk and perl, with some indirect influence from self in its object prototype system.Java scripts dynamically typed that is programs dont declare variable types, and the type of variable is unrestricted and can change at runtime. Source can be generated at run time and evaluated against an arbitrary scope. Typical implementations compile by translating source into a specified byte code format, to check syntax and source consistency. tincture that the availability to generate and interpret programs at runtime implies the presence of a compiler at runtime.Java script is a high level scripting language that does not depend on or expose particular machine representations or operating system services. It provides automatic storage management, typically using a food waste collector.FEATURESJava script is embedded into HTML documents and is executed with in them.Java script is browser dependentJavaScript is an interpreted language that can be interpreted by the browser at run time .Java script is loosely typed languageJava script is an object based language.Java script is an Event-Driven language and supports event handlers to sp ecify the functionality of a button.ADVANTAGESJava script can be used for client side applicationJava script provides substance to contain multiform windows for presentation of the web.Java script provides basic data validation before it is sent to the server. Eg login and password checking or whether the values entered are right or whether all fields in a from are filled and reduced network trafficIt creates interactive forms and client side lookup tables.JavaDataBaseConnectivity (JDBC)It is a java data base wedivity having database as a back-end of java as front end. Database is a collectivity of related data. A data base management system (DBMS) controls the storage or retrieval of data in the database. The main use of this JDBC is the database connectivity.Using device drivers we can get connection to the back-endWhich drive we are going to connect back-end.Create a data source name (dsn).Create a statement for connection. The package we use here is java. Sql.Interfaces of jd bc include Driver, Connection, Statement, Prepare Statement, CallableStatement, ResultSet, and ResultSetMetaData.Classes of JDBC are DriverManages, DriverPropertyInformation, Date, Time, Timestamp, and Type. The driver defined by the class JdbcOdbcDriver in package sun.jdbc.odbc. Class sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver represents the jdbc to odbc bridge driver.Overview of New FeaturesResult set enhancementsThe JDBC 1.0 API provided result sets that had the ability to scroll in a forward directionally. Scrollable result sets allow for more flexibility in the processing of results by providing both forward and backward movement through their contents. In addition, scrollable result sets allow for sexual relation and absolute positioning. For example, its pos-sable to move to the fourth row in a scrollable result set directly, or to move directly to the third row following the current row, provided the row exists. The JDBC API allows result sets to be directly updatable, as well.Batch updat esThe batch update feature allows an application to submit multiple update statements (insert/update/delete) in a single request to the database. This can provide a dramatic increase in performance when a large number of update statements need to be executed.Advanced data typesIncreased support for storing persistent Java programming language objects (Java objects) and a mapping for SQL99 data types such as binary large objects, and structured types, has been added to the JDBC API. An application may also customize the map-ping of SQL99 structured types into Java programming language classes.RowSetsAs its name implies, a rowset encapsulates a set of rows. A rowset may or may not maintain an open database connection. When a rowset is disconnected from its data source, updates performed on the rowset are propagated to the key database using an optimistic concurrency control algorithm. RowSets add support to the JDBC API for the JavaBeans component model. A RowSet object is a bean. A RowSet implementation may be Serializable. Rowsets can be created at design time and used in conjunction with other JavaBeans components in a visual builder tool to construct an application.JNDI for naming databasesThe Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) API can be used in addition to a JDBC technology-based driver manager (JDBC driver manager) to obtain a connection to a database. When an application uses the JNDI API, it specifies a logical name that identifies a particular database instance and JDBC driver for accessing that database. This has the advantage of making the application code independent of a particular JDBC driver and JDBC technology URL.Connection PoolingThe JDBC API contains hooks that allow connection pooling to be implemented on top of the JDBC driver layer. This allows for a single connection compile that spans the different JDBC drivers that may be in use. Since creating and destroying database connections is expensive, connection pooling is important f or achieving good performance, especially for server applications.Result Set EnhancementsThis chapter discusses the new functionality that has been added to result sets. The goal of the enhancements is to add two new basic capabilities to result sets scrolling and updatability. Several methods have also been added to enable a JDBC driver to deliver improved performance when processing results. A variety of examples are included to illustrate the new features.ScrollingA result set created by executing a statement may support the ability to move backward (last-to-first) through its contents, as well as forward (first-to-last). Result sets that support this capability are called scrollable result sets. Result sets that are scrollable also support relative and absolute positioning. Absolute positioning is the ability to move directly to a row by specifying its absolute position in the result set, time relative positioning gives the ability to move to a row by specifying a position that is relative to the current row. The definition of absolute and relative positioning in the JDBC API is modeled on the X/Open SQL CLI specification.Result Set typesThe JDBC 1.0 API provided one result set typeforward-only. The JDBC 2.1 core API provides three result set types forward-only, scroll-insensitive, and scroll-sensitive. As their names suggest, the new result set types support scrolling, but they differ in their ability to make changes visible while they are open.A scroll-insensitive result set is generally not sensitive to changes that are made while it is open. A scroll-insensitive result set provides a static view of the underlying data it contains. The membership, order, and tower values of rows in a scroll-insensitive resultset are typically fixed when the result set is created. On the other hand, a scroll-sensitive result set is sensitive to changes that are made while it is open, and provides a dynamic view of the underlying data. For example, when using a scroll-se nsitive result set, changes in the underlying column values of rows are visible. The membership and ordering of rows in the result set may be fixedthis is implementation defined.Concurrency typesAn application may choose from two different concurrency types for a result set read-only and updatable. A result set that uses read-only concurrency does not allow updates of its contents. This can increase the overall level of concurrency between transactions, since any number of read-only locks may be held o

Partial Molar Properties And Their Application

Partial Molar Properties And Their ApplicationThermodynamics deals with animation changes and its relationship with work. It is based on three laws of thermodynamics which be apply as axioms just as Newtons laws motion from the basis of classical mechanics. The first two laws are based on facts find in every day life. The predictions based on these laws have been verified in most cases and so far no case has been reported where the laws improve down. The laws can be stated in mathematical variety. Hence, thermodynamics is an exact science. The thermodynamic theory can be developed without gaps in the argument using yet moderate knowledge of mathematics.B.ABOUT PARTIAL MOLAR PROPERTYThermodynamic relations derived earlier are applicable to closed formations. In a system where non only the work and wake but also several kinds of matter are being exchanged, a multi serving open system has to be considered. Here, the counts of the various substances are treated as variables l ike either different thermodynamic variables. For example, the gibbs free vigour of a system is a go not only of temperature and ram , but also of the amount of each substance in the system, such thatG=f(T,p,n1,n2.nk)Where n1,n2,.,nk represent the amounts of each of the K components in the system . for simplicity, let a system contain only two components. The total differential of G isdG=(?G/?T)P,n1,n2 dT+(?G/?p)T,n1,n2 dp+(?G/?n1)T,p,n2 dn+(?G/?n2)T,p,n1 dn2In this eq., the partial derivatives (?G/?n1)T,P,n2 and (?G/?n2)T,P,n1 are known as partial hoagie free energies of components one and two , complaisanceively. In genral, the partial derivative of a thermodynamic pop off Y with respect to the amount of component i of a alloy when T,p and amounts of other constituents are kept unceasing , is known as the partial molar station of the ith component and is represented as Yi,pm. ThusYi,pm=(?Y/?ni)T,p,njs i=jC.DEFINITION OF PARTIAL MOLAR PROPERTYThe partial molar plaza ma y be defined in either of the following two ways1. it is the change in Y when 1 bulwark of component i is added to a system which is so large that this addition has a negligible effect on the account of the system.2. Let dY be the change in comfort of Y when an infinitesimal amount dni of component i is added to a sysem of definite composition. By an infinitesimal amount dni we mean that its addition does not cause both appreciable change in the composition of the system. If we divide dY by dni , we get the partial molar prop (?Y/?ni). thusly, the partial molar property of the component i may be defined as the change in Y per mole of component i when an infinitesimal amount of this component is added to a system of definite composition.D.TYPES OF MOLAR PROPERTIES(a.) Partial molar muckleThe partial molar garishness is broadly understood as the contribution that a component of a mixture makes to the overall saturation of the re resolution. However, there is rather more to i t than thisWhen one mole of piss is added to a large volume of body of water at 25C, the volume increases by 18cm3. The molar volume of axenic water would thus be reported as 18cm3 mol-1. However, addition of one mole of water to a large volume of pure ethanol results in an increase in volume of only 14cm3. The reason that the increase is different is that the volume occupied by a addicted number of water molecules depends upon the identity of the surrounding molecules. The value 14cm3 is said to be the partial molar volume of water in ethanol. In familiar, the partial molar volume of a substance X in a mixture is the change in volume per mole of X added to the mixture. The partial molar volumes of the components of a mixture vary with the composition of the mixture, because the environment of the molecules in the mixture changes with the composition. It is the changing molecular environment (and the consequent readjustment of the interactions between molecules) that results in the thermodynamic properties of a mixture changing as its composition is altered. The partial molar volume, VJ, of any substance J at a general composition, is defined asFig the partial molar volumes of water and ethanol at 25degree Cwhere the subscript n indicates that the amount of all the other substances is held constant. The partial molar is the heel over of the plot of the total volume as the amount of J is changed with all other variables held constant advert that it is quite strength for the partial molar volume to be negative, as it would be at II in the above diagram. For example, the partial molar volume of magnesium sulphate in water is -1.4cm3 mol-1.i.e. addition of 1 mol MgSO4 to a large volume of water results in a decrease in volume of 1.4 cm3. (The compaction occurs because the salt breaks up the open structure of water as the ions become hydrated.) in one case the partial molar volumes of the two components of a mixture at the composition and temperature of inter est are known, the total volume of the mixture can be calculated fromThe expression may be extended in an analogous modality to mixtures with any number of components. The most common method of measuring partial molar volumes is to measure the dependence of the volume of a solution upon its composition. The observed volume can then be fitted to a function of the composition (usually using a computer), and the slope of this function can be set(p) at any composition of interest by specialty.(b.) Partial molar gibbs energiesThe concept of a partial molar quantity can be extended to any all-inclusive state function. For a substance in a mixture, the chemical substance potential is a defined as the partial molar gibbs qualificationi.e. the chemical potential is the slope of a plot of the Gibbs energy of the mixture against the amount of component J, with all other variables held constantIn the above plot, the partial molar Gibbs energy is greater at I than at II. The total Gibbs ener gy of a binary mixture is given byThe above expression may be generalised quite trivially to a mixture with an arbitrary number of componentswhere the sum is across all the different substances present in the mixture, and the chemical potentials are those at the composition of the mixture. This indicates that the chemical potential of a substance in a mixture is the contribution that substance makes to the total Gibbs energy of the mixture. In general, the Gibbs energy depends upon the composition, squelch and temperature. Thus G may change when any of these variables alter, so for a system that has components A, B, etc, it is possible to rewrite the equation dG = Vdp SdT (which is a general result that was derived here) as followswhich is called the fundamental equation of chemical thermodynamics. At constant temperature and pressure, the equation simplifies toUnder these conditions, dG = dwn,max (as was demonstrated here), where the n indicates that the work is non-expansion work. Therefore, at constant temperature and pressureThe idea that the changing composition of a system can do work should be familiar this is what happens in an electrochemical cell, where the two halves of the chemical reaction are separated in space (at the two electrodes) and the changing composition results in the motion of electrons through a circuit, which can be used to do electrical work.On a final note, it is possible to use the relationships between G and H, and G and U, to generate the following relationsNote oddly the conditions (the variables that must be held constant) under which each relation applies.Fig the partial molar volumes of water and ethanol at 25degree Cwhere the subscript n indicates that the amount of all the other substances is held constant. The partial molar is the slope of the plot of the total volume as the amount of J is changed with all other variables held constantNote that it is quite possible for the partial molar volume to be negative, as it would be at II in the above diagram. For example, the partial molar volume of magnesium sulphate in water is -1.4cm3 mol-1. i.e. addition of 1 mol MgSO4 to a large volume of water results in a decrease in volume of 1.4 cm3. (The contraction occurs because the salt breaks up the open structure of water as the ions become hydrated.) Once the partial molar volumes of the two components of a mixture at the composition and temperature of interest are known, the total volume of the mixture can be calculated fromThe expression may be extended in an analogous fashion to mixtures with any number of components. The most common method of measuring partial molar volumes is to measure the dependence of the volume of a solution upon its composition. The observed volume can then be fitted to a function of the composition (usually using a computer), and the slope of this function can be determined at any composition of interest by differentiation.(C.)PARTIAL MOLAR THERMAL PROPERTIES1. Partial molar heat c apacities the heat capacity at constant pressure Cp of a solution containing n1 moles of solvent and n2 moles of solute is given byCp=(?H/?T)P,N eq(1)The pressure and compostion being constant. Upon differentiation with respect to n1,maintaining n2 constant,it follows thatCP1=(?CP/?n1)T,P,n2=?H/?T?n1 .eq(2)Where Cp1 is the partial molar heat capacity,at constant pressure,of the constituent 1 of the given solution. The partial molar heat constant H1 of this constituent is defined byH1=(?H/?n1)T,P,n2And indeed differentiation with respect to temp. gives(?H1/?T)P,N=?H/?T?n1 =CP1 .eq(3)The result being identical with CP1 by eq.(3).The partial molar heat capacity of the solvent is any particular solution thus be defined by either eq(1) and eq(2).Similarly,i.e.,constituent 2,Cp2=(?CP/?n2)T,P,n1=(?H2/?T)P,N ..eq(4)We know,Li=H1-H10Is differentiated with respect to temp.,at constant pressure and composition,it follows that(?L1/?T)P,N=(?H1/?T)P,N-(?H10/?T)P,N= Cp1-Cp10 eq(5)Where Cp1,identi cal with Cp1 or Cp1o, is the molar heat capacity of the pure solvent or the partial molar heat capacity of the solvent in a solution at infinite dilution. Thus, Cp10 may be regardedas an observational quantity, and if the variation of the relative partial molar heat content of the solvent with temperature,i.e. (?L1/?T)P,N, is known , it is possible to determine Cp1 at the corresponding composition of the solution. The necessary entropy are rarely available from direct thermal measurements of L1, such as thus described in 44f,at several temperatures, but the information can very much be obtained, although not very accurately from E.M.F measurements.By differentiating the expression for the relative partial molar heat content of the solute it is found, in an exactly similar fashion to that used above , that(?L2/?T)P,N=(?H2/?T)P,N-(?H02/?T)P,N=CP2-CP20 eq(6)In this expression,Cp20 is the partial molar heat capacity of the solute in the infinitely lose weight solution. Although the experimentel significance of the quantity is not immediately obvious.thus from a knowledge of the variation of L2, the partial molar heat content of the solute with temprature it should be possible to derive, with the aid of equation(6) , the partial molar heat capacity of the solute Cp2 at the given composition.E.Determination of partial molar properties1.Direct methodin view of the definition of the partial molar properties Gi asGi=(?G/?ni)T,P,n1,.. .eq(1)An obvious method ffor its aspiration is to plot the value of the extensive properties G,at constant temperature and pressure, for various mixtures of the two components against the number of moles,e.g.,n2,of the one of them, the value of n1 being kept constant. The slope of the curve at any particular composition, which maybe determined by drawing a tengent to the curve, gives the value of G2 at that comoposition. Since the molality of a solution represents the number of moles of solute associated with a constant mass, and hence a constant number of moles, the plot of the property G against the molality can be used for the evaluation of the partial molar property of the solute. Once G2 at any composition has been determined, the corresponding value of G1 is readily derived by means of the relationship,G=n1G1+n2G2In view of the difficulty of determining the exact slope of the curve at all points, it is preferable to use an analytical procedure instead of the graphical one just described. The property G is then denotative as a function of the number of moles of one component,e.g.,the molality, associated with a constant amount of the other component. Upon differentiation with respect to n,i.g.,the molality, an expression for the partial molar property is obtained.2.from apparent molar propertiesa method that is often more convenient and accuarate than that described above, makes use of the apparent molar property. We knowG-n1G1=n22If n1 is maintained constant,so that n1G1 is constant, differentiation with respe ct to n2 , constant temp. and pressure being understood,givesG2 =(?G/?n2)n1 = (?G/?n2)n1 + G eq(2)G2 = ((?G/? ln n2)n1+ G ..eq(3)Since the molality m is resembling to n2, with n1 constant, eq(2) and eq(3) may be scripted asG2= m (d G/dm)+ G eq(4)G2=( d G/d ln m)+ G ..eq(5)Respectively. If the apparent molar property G is determined for various set of n2 , with n1 constant , or at various molalities, the partial molar property G2 can be calculated from the slope, at any given composition, of the plot of G against n2 or against ln n2. The method based on the use of eqs(3)(5) is usally more accurate than that involving the logarithmic plot, since it does not give undue importance to result obtained in dilute solutions. An analytical method can, of course, be used in place of the graphical procedure if G can be expressed as a function of n2 or of the molality. For use in a later connection, an alternative form of eq(4) is required and it will be derived here. The right hand side of this equation is equivalent to d(m G)/dm, that is,m (d G/dm)= G2and upon integration, m varying between the limits of zero and m, and mdG between zero and mG, it is found thatmG=?0m G2 dmG=1/m?0m G2 dmfor dilute solutions, the molality is proportional to the molar concentration c, and hence it is permissible to put this result in the formG=1/c?0m G2 dmF. APPLICATION OF PARTIAL MOLAR PROPERTIESThese properties are very useful since each and every reaction in chemical science occurs at a constant temperature and pressure and under these conditions we can determine these with the help of partial molar properties. They are highly useful when specific properties of pure substances andproperties of mixing are considered. By definition, properties of mixing are related to those of the pure substance byHere * denotes the pure substanceM the mixing propertyz corresponds to the specific propertyFrom the definition of partial molar properties, substitution yieldsHence if we know the partial molar p roperties we can derive the properties of mixing. For the internal energy U, enthalpy H, Helmholtz free energy A, and Gibbs free energy G, the following holdwhereP is the pressureV is the volumeT is temperatureS is the entropyG. Fiscal And Monetary Policy Economics Essay

m atomic number 53tary And Monetary Policy Economics Essay kindred the Economics for Dummies states, anti- turning pointary stinting policies come in two flavors Fiscal Policy and Monetary Policy. Monetary insurance policys technique is to increase the capital supply and offseters elicit rambles. When engagement rates are lowered, more people are about to access loans, buy houses, and increase purchasing power. Fiscal Policy involves lowering taxes and increasing organization spending so that the saving leave have more subsequently tax money.Fiscal PolicyExpansionary and contractionary are two types of monetary policy. Expansionary policy involves cosmetic surgery political science expenditures and lowering taxes so the establishment budget shortage can grow or the surplus to fall. In 2011, Japan suffered from a natural disaster. The northeastward east area of the country was struck by a tsunami causing their country to endure financial issues. Japan used expansionary fiscal policy to economic aid get them out of that terrible economic situation. Expansionary fiscal policy helped Japan by raising their private consumption growth. Contractionary fiscal policy is the opposite of expansionary policy. giving medication expenditures will be decreased and taxes will be raised to help the budget deficit or surplus. The Role of Government BudgetingOne of the main tools of fiscal policy is the federal budget. Aggregate demand is affected by the governance expenditures and taxes affect investing and consuming. The effects of government expenditure and tax revenues are of import in the aggregate demand equation be seduce they can cause AD increase or decrease. Government expenditures include transfer payments, purchases of goods and usefulnesss, and occupy payments on government debt Swanenberg. Tax revenues are brought in from social security, indirect taxes, income tax, and corporate taxes. When the amount of taxes brought in is above expenditure ex pectations, this will factor to a budget surplus.Fiscal Policy Pros and ConsFiscal policy is the usage of government spending and the use of taxes to control the deli precise. As defined by Investopedia, fiscal policy is the means by which a government adjusts its level of spending in order to monitor and influence a nations money supply, (2009). Whenever the government makes a decision on what service and good to buy, how much to tax on said good or service, or the payment relegations dispersed, the government is exercising the fiscal policy. The fiscal policy is for the most part used to show how government spending and taxation affects the aggregate economy levels. The fiscal policy really was not used as much until after World War II. When on that point is a surplus in the government budget, (revenue is higher than spending), the fiscal policy is a contradiction whereas when there is a deficit in the budget, (spending is higher than the budget), the fiscal policy is defined a s being expansionary, as stated by the Library of Economics and Liberties (Weil 2008). The Library of Economics and Liberties in addition states, when there is a deficit in the fiscal policy, economists focus more on the difference in the deficit and not the levels of the deficit, (Weil 2008).The fiscal policy just is not perfect. Just like everything in nature, the fiscal policy has its strengths and weakness. According to Dr. Wood, one main strength about the fiscal policy is that since it is basically government ran, it has good stability when used properly in the economy (Wood 2009). Contrary to monetary policy, the fiscal policy focuses on one area instead of the economy as a whole which can result in less mistakes and less headaches. Government interaction aids the fiscal policy by service of process with resource allocation. As mentioned before, the fiscal policy is not perfect. Because the fiscal policy deals with the government, there may be little to no room for flexibi lity, (Wood 2009). An example would be, the government cant decide to raise taxes to compensate government spending. David Weil has stated that, fiscal policy also changes the burden of future taxes, (Weil 2008). The fiscal policy can sometimes result in the domino effect, meaning having one problem can cause more problems, which can result in another problem, and so on. The fiscal policy is usually only implemented once a year so this itself can be a weakness. One reason is because the government may be funding a project, such as a highway being built, and may not be finished in the allotted time, consequently causing a problem in government spending. As of October 2012, Forbes has elucidated that the fiscal policy is not as rough-and-ready as it once was by stating, the telephone exchange Bank cant lower its interest rates, (Smith 2012). Smith also goes on to state that, if the government steps in and fasten ons lots of money then the rate of interest will tend to rise, (Smit h 2012).Monetary PolicyAfter the Great Depression, market economies learned that they were not adjusting to economic downturns quickly enough. The lack of response was one of the causes of long-lasting economic crises. Therefore the government started to stick its hand in the economy to come about it from spiraling out of control using fiscal policy. When gross domestic product contracts, the government spends more, and taxes less, which gets the economy growing. Another form of government macroeconomics is monetary policy and it is practiced by the supplyeral Reserve Bank. The Fed fiddles with the money supply to save up the economy in between inflation and recession.Back in the 1960s President Johnson had to increase government spending due to the Vietnam War. Economists believed as the President unbroken spending money, it would lead to inflation. The inflation would be caused by an economy that is already stable, plus increased government spending, which only creates higher prices and aggregate supply will be limited. The Federal Reserve Bank and monetary policy was then instituted. Its job is to make the necessary corrections in the economy that the government will not make. The Fed is a private sector. The Federal Reserve Bank affects the economys rate of interest. Our central bank increases the amount of money circulating in the economy because the higher quantity of something decreases its price. With a lower price of money, also called a lower interest rate, more people will be willing to borrow money, which means they spend more money in turn giving the economy a boost. The only problem is some economists believe it will cause prices to spike quickly. So out of fear of inflation, the Fed decreases the amount of money circulating in the economy which raises the price of money, or raises the interest rate. Higher interest rates mean less borrowing, which means less spending, which slows the economy down. Now the fear is the economy will fall into a recession so the Fed lowers interest rates again. The Fed raises the interest rate out of fear of inflation which then causes Recession. The Fed lowers the interest rate out of fear of recession which then leads to inflation. The Fed controls the money supply, which increases or decreases interest rates that can potentially boost or slow an economy and the Fed must keep a good balance because one direction is recession and the other is inflation.Overall monetary policy plays a big part in our economy, without it there would be a lot of confusion in the business world. In particular, the main one would be the banking system. The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) is the corpse thats responsible for most of the monetary policy decisions that are made. Monetary Policy has to do with recession and inflation which is very chief(prenominal) in our economy. Another important fact about monetary policy is aggregate supply and demand. Monetary policy affects them deeply depending on the e conomies input, output, and rate of inflation.Strengths and Weakness of MonetaryFurthermore, monetary policy that is speedy and flexible and somewhat isolated from Political pressure. It doesnt raise inflation value of money by weaken its purchasing Power. Whenever inflation advance hurrying than expected, they may sell government bonds to take money out of circulation. This also can minimize access to credit and slow consumer spending. The decisions they had made really had an effective impact on our economy. Monetary policy has stable prices which is keeping inflation low, it also quality business and households to make financial decisions without worrying about abrupt unexpected prices increasing. The long term enable policy makers assess. The best policy tends to seek between these short- and long- term goals. Lower interest rates to expand the money supply and stem rising unemployment Rates during recession. Although the weaknesses practicing monetary policy cause the central bank to lose control of currency valuation, it wouldnt be possible for interest rates. It also devalues the currency further more monetary policy can achieve low inflation in the long run and affect economic output and employment in the short run. Sustainable Low inflation and economic growth off disagree. When inflationary pressures decrease, the unemployment rate may advance for a short period as the pace of the economy slows. It also can take up to months or even an year maybe even thirster to have the intected effect.ConclusionMonetary and Fiscal policy both have their pros and cons. Fiscal policy can result in a nasty domino effect causing one problem to make another and repeat. Fiscal can also have issues with time lags. Although monetary policy is not very effective in a recession, it is flexible and works well to slow down the economy. Many prefer fiscal over monetary because its brings low taxes and low interest rates.

Identity of Women in Jack Kerouac’s On The Road Essay -- On The Road e

The Identity of Women in On The Road The women in Jack Kerouacs work, On The Road, atomic number 18 portrayed as trivial and shallow, while the men display depth in character. Women argon stereotyped as falling into one of three categories virginal, maternal or promiscuous, and, throughout the refreshing, are referred to in a facetious, derogatory manner. Sal, the protagonist, expresses sexist attitudes, which are a result of both his upbringing and societal attitudes of the time. Although the novel does highlight the problem of sexism, ultimately it does nil to criticise it, but in fact projects it. Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster Essay -- Chernobyl History Nuclear Essays P

Chernobyl Nuclear DisasterThe Chernobyl disaster was the worst industrial disaster in the archives of the world. On April 26, at 124am reactor chassis 4 at the Chernobyl plant blew up. The explosion was the result of an experiment that, due to human error, went awry. The operator at the time do the first mistake that lead to the disaster by disabling automatic shutdown mechanisms. When the operator then went to shut down the reactor from its unstable condition the poor design of the reactor and its systems caused a dramatic power surge within the reactor. Following the explosion radioactivity with an intensity eq to 500 of the bombs that destroyed Hiroshima at the end of World War II was measured in the atmosphere.2 Radioactive dust was carried as far away as Sweden where the disaster was first detected and reported.1 Directly after the accident, an area of 30 kilometers was declared restricted. Within this area about 116,000 people were evacuated. The numbers of people that su bstantiate been affected (including merely not limited to the amount of people that have died) from this disaster are not known due to poor documentation. Estimates have the number dead at about 15,000 people that have died as a direct result of the explosion.
